Little Granville is situated in the grounds of Ford Farm House. It enjoys views across the beautiful countryside and is within a 10-minute drive of the sandy beaches of Shanklin, Steephill Cove and Ventnor. It is a wonderful walking and cycling area with footpaths and bridleways leading from close to the cottage to nearby downs and there is a renowned walk which follows the course of the nearby River Yar from its source at Niton to the sea at Bembridge via Godshill and Alverstone. The nearby village of Whitwell has the White Horse Inn, for meals, and within a few minutes’ drive, there is also the village of Niton, where there is an excellent general store, pub, pharmacy and a beautiful church. The thatched village of Godshill lies about two miles north and has two public houses and a restaurant.
The White Horse Inn is a family run pub which was first built in 1454, making it one of the oldest pubs in the UK. They offer a good selection of food, from homemade burgers, fish dishes, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and they are happy to welcome you to their family run restaurant/pub. Additionally, the inn has a full range of drinks, including a selection of lagers, beers, wines, spirits, and soft drinks. Their bar boasts a great variety of real ales, including locally brewed varieties from the Island’s Yates and Goddards breweries.
Whitwell Garage is a Ford dealership selling new and second-hand reasonably priced cars along with its petrol/diesel filling station. The garage is open every day 8am until 6pm, except Sundays and Bank Holidays when they are closed, but there are supermarkets within a 15 minutes’ drive from Ford Farm if you need fuel urgently. Whitwell Garage received a top national award after being voted the best Ford Dealership for customer service in the country!
Nettlecombe Farm has been in the Morris family for over a century, and you’ll still meet us around the farm today. In the heart of the rolling Isle of Wight countryside, our farm is at the top of a quiet lane half a mile from the sleepy village of Whitwell. Surrounded by green fields and lakes, our luxurious self-catering holiday accommodation is not only safe and comfortable for visitors of all ages and abilities, it’s also the perfect base to explore the farm with its friendly animals – or the Islands wider countryside and scenic coastline.
Whitwell had its very own Railway Station which was linked to the ‘Ventnor West’ branch of the Isle of Wight Central Railway. Along with other branches on the Island, the railway opened on the 20th July 1897. Whitwell was equipped with a passing loop, two platforms, a signal box and the station located in Nettlecombe Lane.
